AAMU Announces 2026 Summer Programs and Camps

STEM Training & Explorers Program (STEP)
June 1–June 11

Alabama A&M University’s Department of Biological Sciences, in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame and HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, will host the 2026 STEM Training & Explorers Program (STEP) summer day camp June 1–11 in Carter Science Hall. The program is open to students entering grades 4–8 in fall 2026 and will run Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering hands-on STEM activities, field trips and a culminating showcase designed to build critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Registration is open April 10–30, space is limited, and submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance; selected participants will be notified by email. The cost is $60 per child for two weeks, with need-based scholarships available. Research Experience for Secondary School Students in Ceramics and Nanostructures
June 1–July 31

High school students in Huntsville, Madison, and surrounding areas can gain hands-on STEM research experience in this competitive summer program. Participants will work closely with a primary mentor in a university laboratory, receiving instruction and practical training in ceramics and nanostructures. The program runs Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for eight weeks and offers a $1,000 monthly stipend. Four positions are available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have completed 10th, 11th, or early 12th grade. Students from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Accepted participants under 19 will need parental approval for medical and liability forms. Apply by May 15, to jumpstart your journey in STEM research. AgriFCS Academy Summer Camp
June 7–11

Alabama A&M University’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences will host a free weeklong Agriculture and Family and Consumer Sciences (AgriFCS) Academy Summer Camp June 7–11, in the Carver Complex, Hobson Wing. The residential camp will introduce rising high school juniors to career pathways in food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences while engaging them in hands-on learning experiences and campus life. Participants are expected to reside on campus, attend all scheduled activities and demonstrate a willingness to learn and a positive attitude. Bulldog Summer Academy
June 1–25

Alabama A&M University will host the Bulldog Summer Academy June 1–25, in the Carver Complex North, Room 204. The program, held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., provides rising first- through fifth-grade students with a fun and academically engaging summer experience designed to strengthen math and literacy skills. Participants spend half of each session building confidence in mathematics and the other half developing reading and writing abilities through hands-on, interactive lessons tailored to young learners. The academy offers a supportive environment where students can grow academically and socially while maintaining learning momentum during the summer, providing a total of 48 hours of academic support. Transportation vouchers are available to help offset travel costs for participating families.

Workshop on Nanoscience & Technology
June 22–25

The NSF-RISE Program in the Physics Department will host a dynamic, hands-on workshop introducing students to the cutting-edge world of nanoscience and technology. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the program is open to highly motivated 10th-, 11th- and rising 12th-grade students from Huntsville, Madison and surrounding areas who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Participants will work alongside faculty experts, explore emerging scientific concepts and receive a $300 stipend. Ten students will be selected, and applicants must submit an official academic transcript; medical and liability forms signed by a parent or guardian are required upon acceptance. Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) HBCU Scholars Program
July 12–17

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund HBCU Scholars Program is a one-week residential experience for high-achieving high school juniors (Class of 2027), hosted on the campuses of Alabama A&M University and Drake State Community and Technical College. Designed to prepare students for college success, the program introduces participants to HBCU and HBCC opportunities while providing guidance on admissions, financial aid and scholarship resources. Students will also explore academic majors and career pathways through interactive sessions and campus engagement. The program is free to all participants, and applicants must be current high school juniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA who submit a 250-300 word personal statement. The application deadline is April 15, 2026.

‘AI in Action’ Summer Robotics Bootcamp
July 13–23

The “AI in Action” Summer Robotics Bootcamp will take place July 13–23 (excluding Fridays), in Bond Hall Auditorium. This two-week, non-residential program is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in robotics, artificial intelligence, Python programming, and machine learning. Participants will attend Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., engaging in daily coding challenges, morning workshops and lectures and afternoon hands-on labs and live demonstrations. The camp will conclude with a final project by programming an autonomous vehicle, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in a creative and practical way.
