First Lady's Scholarship Event Cancelled
Tenth Anniversary Activity Cancelled
The annual First Lady’s Scholarship Initiative scheduled for Saturday, March 21, in the Ernest L. Knight Reception Center at 10 a.m. has been cancelled due to the national efforts to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus 2019.
Since its inception 10 years ago, the activity has honored AAMU first ladies, past and present, and it has raised funds for deserving students attending Alabama A&M University who exemplify the spirit of the founder, Dr. William Hooper Councill.
The luncheon features special tributes honoring the nine First Ladies of the University: Mrs. Maria Weeden Howard Councill, Mrs. Ida Councill Buchanan, Mrs. Susan Whitfield Parker, Mrs. Anne Quick Drake, Mrs. Ethel Williams Morrison, Mrs. Beatrice Mitchell Covington, Mrs. Earlene Ovletre Henson, Mrs. Voncile Pierce Gibson and Mrs. Abbiegail Hamilton Hugine.
The First Lady’s Scholarship is open to full-time sophomores, juniors, rising seniors and graduate students with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and who are involved in community and campus activities.
During the yearly event, scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students from each of the four academic colleges of the university and to a graduate student at-large.
