Large Construction Projects on Schedule
Projects 20-43 Percent Complete
The Event Center and the Welcome Center currently under construction on the Alabama A&M University campus remain on schedule, according to Brian Shipp, director of facilities services.
The Welcome Center is approximately 20 percent complete with a completion scheduled
for May or June 2022. The facilities schedule was revised due to supply delays of
steel, said Shipp. The Event Center will host a series of sporting events, ceremonies
and other campus and community activities. Other listed amenities include locker
rooms, training rooms, the AAMU Athletic Hall of Fame, and a mammoth kitchen.
The Event Center is about 43 percent complete, and the completion date currently stands at August/September 2022. The Welcome Center will serve as a one-stop shop for student information, house the Office of Admissions, executive conference space, retail space and commercial restaurants. The crew is enclosing the building shell and roughing in the mechanical and electrical systems, Shipp explained.
