Setting Guidelines on a Major Scale

An Alabama A&M University assistant professor will serve on a national task force formed by the Society of Health And Physical Educators (SHAPE)

SHAPE America with CDC endorsement has announced the National Health Education Standards (NHES) Task Force with Dr. Sarah Toth of AAMU serving as co-chair.

The task force will be responsible for revising the National Health Education Standards for kindergarten through 12th grade.  All health education curricula are based on these national standards.  Once the National Health Education Standards are revised, SHAPE America will oversee a comprehensive, strategic implementation plan in close partnership with the organization’s 51 state affiliates, national health education partners, and supervisors of the health education curriculum at the district level and at state departments of education.

Toth earned the B.S. degree in elementary education and teaching from Auburn University; an M.Ed. degree in elementary education from Alabama A&M University; and the Ph.D. degree in health education and promotion from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She was the 2019 recipient of AAMU’s College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences Outstanding Leadership in Service Award.
