NIA TAYLOR WHITTEN
Nia Taylor Whitten is a native of Decatur, Georgia. She is the daughter of Ivory Whitten III and Naima McCorvey. Before graduating from Southwest DeKalb High School with a seal of fine arts, Nia's achievements and involvements included yearbook editor, Miss Journalism 2017-2018, Student Government Association Vice President, Coca Cola Award recipient, Step Team captain, varsity cheerleader, fashion show coordinator, student ambassador, prom princess, and prom queen. She has also visited her high school since being in college to mentor high school freshmen.
Nia’s tenure on “The Hill” began in August 2018. She is currently a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Media. She plans to attend graduate school to study Public Relations or to begin her career in media. Miss Whitten is a Normalite scholarship recipient and has been an active Bulldog since her arrival. She has served as the 2018-2019 Miss Foster, 2019-2020 Miss Sophomore, Tutorial Assistance Network English tutor, The Movement leader, and Resident Assistant, to name a few. Nia is also a Spring 2021 initiate of the Gorgeous Gamma Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
While being a lover of God first, Nia enjoys time with her family and friends, writing and music. She aims to maintain a positive attitude and an uplifted spirit. She credits God for her many blessings. As Miss Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, she intends to work rigorously to live up to the meaning of her name: Purpose. Coining the platform of “Spirit and Service with a Purpose,” she plans to extend community and student body service.
Faith (right) is a freshman psychology major from Memphis, Tennessee. In her free time, she enjoys engaging with her friends, watching her favorite show on Hulu and shopping. She is the daughter of Linwood and Stephanie Dillard.
Makayla (left) is a sophomore animal bio-health science major from Mobile, Alabama. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering and traveling. She is the daughter of Michael and Rosalyn Miles
Arianna Fletcher (right) is a junior elementary education major from Huntsville, Alabama. In her free time, she enjoys doing makeup, exercising, and shopping. She is the daughter of Adrian & LaShonda Fletcher.
Jailyn Shepard (left) is a senior biology major from Selma, Alabama. She is involved in organizations such as the Gamma Mu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, University Echoes Student Ambassadors, the Alabama Student Rural Health Association, and the Honors Program. In her free time, she enjoys baking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is the daughter of Donald and Tamica Shepard.
