AAMU Names HR Director
SHRP Amassed Experience with U.S. Army
Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University has announced that Lisa Spencer will serve as the Human Resources Director, effective January 16, 2023.
Spencer is a certified Senior Human Resource Professional (SHRP) and Higher Education Title IX Coordinator. She has over a decade of experience with the United States Army and the Department of Defense in the areas of human resources, policy development, recruiting and retention, training and developing personnel, project management and mentoring.
Spencer earned the B.S. in business administration from Excelsior University, an MBA in human resource management from Columbia Southern University, and an MPA from Excelsior University. She is currently pursuing a Juris Master in Employment Law and HR Risk Management from Florida State University.
During her tenure in the United States Army, Spencer served in numerous HR roles, working her way up from an HR Specialist to a Senior HR Manager, and she climbed the ranks from Private to Sergeant First Class. She led a team responsible for standing up a Brigade S1/Personnel Shop supporting over 1,700 soldiers and family members.
Additionally, Spencer was recognized by the Secretary of the Navy for her work with the Administrative Review Boards (ARB) and Combatant Status Review Tribunals (CSRT) conducted at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and by the Sergeant Major of the Army for excellence in retention and recruiting for achieving the retention mission in her unit for nine consecutive quarters.
Spencer’s diverse work experience includes service in various U.S. Army roles in Alabama and Texas, in higher education, and within a public school system. She currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and has been with the University since January 2017.
She is married to Anthony Spencer and is a native of Belzoni, Mississippi.
