AAMU Readies for MALE Initiative 2020
MALE Summit Underway
Alabama A&M University will host its 2020 Men Aspiring to Lead and Empower (MALE) Initiative Summit February 2-6.
The activities will begin with a “Rep Yo’ Team” Super Bowl Party for AAMU students at the Knight Reception Center on Sunday, February 2.
On Monday, February 3, Hon. Lonzo Robinson, presiding judge, Huntsville Municipal Court, will address the topic “The Gathering Spot: When the I.N.K. (Ideas, Networking, Knowledge) Runs Dry.” Judge Robinson will speak at the Ralph Lee Student Center at 6 p.m. Caleb Franklin will serve as facilitator.
Social work professor Willie Diggs will speak on the topic “I Am Somebody” on Tuesday, February 4, at the Knight Center at 6 p.m.
At noon on Wednesday, February 5, a “Drip or Drown” Expo will highlight professional fashion, headshots, grooming and neckwear in the Knight Center VIP Room. At 6 p.m. students will attend St. John A.M.E. Church for a Bible study and “Fellas Faith Night.” RSVP required for transportation.
At 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, the Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy will engage a Knight Center audience in “A Conversation about M.E.N. (Mental Health, Empowerment, Networking). DJ Envy’s presentation is part of AAMU’s Beyond Normal Lecture Series.
The final summit event is Thursday’s “Above the Rim” faculty/staff vs. students basketball game in the Elmore Building at 7 p.m.
The summit is sponsored by Student Activities and Leadership Development; the AAMU Student Government Association; the Freshman Academy; Department of Public Safety; Marketing, Communication and Advancement; and Residential Life and Housing.
