AAMU Prepares for 6th Annual Day of Service
Giving Back Large Scale
Alabama A&M University's 6th annual Day of Service, "AAMU, Serving the City as ONE,” will be Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., based at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
“This grand event will bring together the City of Huntsville, the Huntsville City Council, Madison County District 6, Huntsville City Schools, Edmonton Community Development Center, and Alabama A&M University for a great day of giving back,” says AAMU Service and Learning Coordinator Monica Clarke.
In the past, AAMU freshmen volunteered for this day of service.
“This year, we are releasing hundreds of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students into Huntsville and Madison County communities to reinforce the commitment of our founder, William Hooper Councill, to serve," added Clarke.
Scheduled community volunteers include Enable Madison County, which will build handicap ramps for families. Volunteers will be spring cleaning: picking up trash, raking yards, planting flowers, painting and making general repairs at service sites including:
McNair Junior High School, Mae Jemison High School, Rolling Hills Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr Elementary, Optimus Park, Harris Home for Children, Edmonton Heights (several locations), Manna House, Huntsville Zoological Association, The Legacy Center and Huntsville Greater Humane Society.
Individuals and organizations interested in volunteering should REGISTER now! For assistance, contact Monica Clarke at monica.clarke@aamu.edu.
