Selma to Montgomery March

An Alabama A&M University research associate has been working with a team dedicated toward preserving the campsites along the historic 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery March through awareness via a film.

Patience Knight, a field coordinator and wildlife research technician in the Biological & Environmental Sciences area, has joined Birmingham-based consultant Phillip Howard and others affiliated with The Conservation Fund. Howard is working on preservation plans for historic homes along the historic trail.  The aim is to counter deterioration and then begin extensive renovations before transforming the structures into educational venues.

Knight said a documentary is being produced to recapture “this forgotten history.”  For additional information on the preservation project, see VIDEO or e-mail patience.knight@aamu.edu.  Persons interested in seeing the documentary about the historic Selma campgrounds and trail can register at this link:  https://alabamarivers.org/se_2021/

The virtual premiere screening was set for Thursday, September 30 at 6 p.m.
