AAMU Alumnus and COO Brings 18 Years of Mining Industry Expertise
Jones Joins Board of Directors at Pelangio Exploration Inc.
Alabama A&M University alumnus Kamar R. Jones has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Pelangio Exploration Inc., a Canadian junior gold exploration company. Pelangio specializes in acquiring, exploring, and developing mineral properties in Canada and Ghana, two of the world's top mining jurisdictions.
Jones’ appointment to the Board of Directors took effect on July 4, 2024. He will provide strategic guidance and industry expertise to support the company's exploration and development initiatives. Jones is also the Chief Operating Officer at Mine Plus Group, where he oversees operational and strategic functions, driving the company towards operational excellence and innovation. His deep understanding of the mining industry and a proven track record in managing complex projects have been crucial in the successful turnaround of numerous mining operations.
Jones is actively involved in global energy transition projects, contributing to sustainable and renewable energy initiatives. With over 18 years of experience in the mining industry, primarily focused on management consulting and turnaround projects, Jones will provide strategic guidance and industry expertise to support Pelangio Exploration Inc.'s exploration and development initiatives.

Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Alabama A&M University and an Executive MBA in International Business from LSU Shreveport, underscoring his commitment to continuous learning and professional development. His distinguished career includes service as a commissioned military officer, where he honed his leadership and strategic planning skills.
Before venturing into management consulting, Jones built a solid foundation in capital markets, working with prominent firms such as Merrill Lynch and Wachovia Securities. His experience in financial services has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the economic and financial aspects of the mining industry.
“My experience at Alabama A&M, especially my training as a cadet and relationships with professors and fellow students, taught me that relationships are the most important and critical skill needed to ascend in business and become a senior/C-level executive. These lessons were the foundation of my success. I still believe I have more growth and development ahead.”
Jones lives in Atlanta with his wife, Leah S. Jones, and their four children: Timmy, Aaliyah, India, and Kayla. He is also a proud grandfather of four girls and an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
