University Choir Album Lasting Musical Reminder of 150th Celebration
Released last year and available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeart, and TIDAL, the Alabama A&M University Choir 150th Anniversary album serves as both a tribute to a century and a half of faith, resilience, scholarship, and song at AAMU. Rooted in Black sacred tradition that has long shaped HBCU choral excellence, the recording carries forward the spiritual heartbeat of the University.
Under the direction of Dr. Horace Carney, the choir has been a cultural ambassador and a living archive of African American musical heritage
for many years. From campus chapels to national stages, singers have preserved traditions
passed down through song.
The anniversary album reflects that legacy with a rich repertoire spanning traditional
spirituals, beloved hymns, and contemporary sacred works echoing the University’s
journey from its founding to its bold future. Selections such as “Precious Lord,” “If I Got My Ticket,” and “More Abundantly” anchor the recording in faith, perseverance, and praise.
The album can be heard on all major platforms with a limited vinyl version to be made
available this year. As the University turns the page into its next 150 years, this
album stands as a permanent artifact of the sound of our sesquicentennial—a musical
time capsule preserving the spirit, faith, and voices that defined this historic year.
