Looking for a Fun Friday?

AAMU Day Party 2.0 Set for October 4

Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University’s Homecoming Week is one of the most widely anticipated events within the Tennessee Valley and beyond.  It is filled with great music and food, energetic step shows, parties galore, parades and the most recent Homecoming staple—the Day Party.

On Friday, October 4, the longed-for Homecoming Day Party event that has brought such entertainers as Lalah Hathaway and so many others to The Quad, will receive a massive 2019 upgrade including a new venue.  This year, the Day Party 2.0 will be held in the juncture of the Louis Crews Stadium complex grounds and the North Huntsville Police/Fire Precinct.

This year’s spectacular entertainment lineup includes Southern Soul artist Lacee, blues legend Willie Clayton, R&B singer Case, and the headliner, Juvenile.  The mammoth, four-star concert begins at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $30 in advance and $35 the week of Homecoming.   All Day Party attendees will enjoy an array of food trucks and experience an electric, autumn atmosphere.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their blankets or lawn chairs.

The idea is to have “musical entertainment for everyone in a festival-like environment,” said Dr. Archie Tucker II, AAMU’s vice president for marketing, communication and advancement.

Who can capture a celebration like modern classic Southern soul crooner Lacee, whose musical roots span from Alabama’s Muscle Shoals to The Carolinas. Then there’s the Greenwood, Miss., blues icon Willie Clayton, who has recorded more than 25 blues albums over nearly 40 years.

Still not quite sold?  Well, they’ve also thrown in singer, songwriter and record producer Case, the two-time Grammy Award nominee with such hits as “Touch Me, Tease Me” and “Happily Ever After.”  The icing on the cake, perhaps, is the New Orleans-born rapper and songwriter Juvenile.
