NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson to Headline Bulldogs LEAD Fireside Chat

Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson will visit Alabama A&M University on Monday, April 20, for an afternoon of conversation focused on leadership, resilience and innovation during the Bulldogs LEAD Leadership Fireside Chat.

The event, hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Buchanan Hall’s Bradford Auditorium. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend. RSVP here.

Dickerson, one of the most prolific running backs in NFL history, will engage students in a discussion that goes beyond football, emphasizing the mindset and habits required to succeed in any field, including how discipline, preparation and adaptability can translate from athletics to academics, careers and entrepreneurship, while reflecting on pivotal moments in his journey and sharing lessons learned along the way.

Selected in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, Dickerson made an immediate impact, setting rookie records in rushing yards and touchdowns. In his second season, he rushed for 2,105 yards, breaking the NFL’s single-season record at the time. He later played for the Indianapolis Colts, where he continued to excel as one of the league’s premier running backs. Over an 11-year career, Dickerson totaled 13,259 rushing yards, earned six Pro Bowl selections and was named All-Pro five times. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

While his achievements on the field are historic, the focus of his visit will center on how students can apply similar principles of excellence in their own lives. The discussion will highlight leadership development, personal accountability and how to turn opportunities into lasting success.

The Bulldogs LEAD series is held throughout the year and features speakers and workshops aimed at preparing students to become impactful leaders in their communities and professions.

Following the fireside chat, Dickerson will also attend the B.E.S.T Awards hosted by the AAMU Department of Athletics at 6 p.m. in the Event Center.
