AAMU Physics Initiates Partnership with Albany State University

AAMU faculty recently visited Albany State University (ASU) to present STEM opportunities for students and faculty. Last year, the U.S Department of Energy – National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) awarded AAMU physicists $2.83 million to fund the five-year consortium “Minority Serving Institution Partnership Program (MSIPP) Partnership for Radiation Studies (PaRS).”

PaRS consortium team members Dr. Padmaja Guggilla (Co-PI), Chair, AAMU Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and Dr. Stephen Babalola (PI), AAMU Associate Professor of Physics, engaged ASU faculty and staff in outreach, education, research, and training efforts of the consortium.

Guggilla and Babalola also presented opportunities for STEM students and faculty members and discussed possible partnerships and opportunities, such as bachelor to master’s and Ph.D. Bridge Program pathways. Currently the PaRS consortium consists of Fisk University, Savannah River National Laboratory, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as its other partners.

“This collaboration effort promises to bring new beginnings and strong partnerships,” says Guggilla.
