AAMU S-STEM Scholars Meet with Potential Employers
AAMU Students Attend First Annual NSF S-STEM Scholars Meeting
Seven Alabama A&M University National Science Foundation students in the Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (NSF S-STEM) Program were selected to participate in the First Annual 2023 S-STEM Scholars Meeting September 14 -16 in Washington D.C.
“The Scholars Meeting was an amazing opportunity for students to represent AAMU and
the
S-STEM program while connecting with hundreds of other S-STEM Scholars from across
the country,” says Dr. Elica Moss, Research Assistant Professor in the Department
of Biological and Environmental Sciences and HBCU STEM US Faculty Fellow. “Students
had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of STEM career pathways, internships,
and educational opportunities. They also engaged in professional development activities
and met potential employers."
Students also attended an educational career fair and visited D.C. museums. The event was attended by over 100 students, mentors, and staff from NSF and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
AAMU S-STEM Scholars include L-R: Samuel Bowie and Trinity Shipman (Food Science); Jalen Whisenhunt (Environmental Science); Whitney Spencer and Saiban Chapell (Biology); Imani Smith (Food Science); Kaylyn Green (Animal Bio-Health); and Dr. Elica M. Moss (PI and NSF S-STEM Scholars Meeting Mentor)
