AAMU Students to Compete in Fifth Annual Moguls in the Making Pitch Competition
After winning in 2020, Alabama A&M students have once again been invited to compete in the Ally and Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s Fifth Annual Moguls in the Making. The business plan pitch competition for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is Sept. 6-10, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Sixty students from 15 HBCUs will have mentors and speakers to inspire them as they develop ideas and business plans to solve economic problems in their community and pitch them to a distinguished panel of judges.
The AAMU team includes:
Simukuka Akakandelwa (Freshman, computer science major, Kitwe, Alaska)
Jonae Cameron (Junior, environmental science, Troy, Michican)
Samarion Flowers (Senior, urban and regional planning, Detroit)
Lyric Sampson (Sophomore, computer science, Havre de Grace, Maryland)
The best presentation with the most brilliant solution wins. Members of the top three teams will receive scholarships for $20,000, $10,000, and $5,000 respectively, along with paid internship offers from Ally, laptops and other prizes. Other teams receive $1,000 scholarships.
This year’s competing schools include: Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Howard University, Johnson C. Smith University, Morgan State University, NC A&T State University, NC Central University, Norfolk State University, Prairie View A&M University, Southern University at Baton Rouge, Spelman College, Texas Southern University, Tuskegee University, and Virginia State University.
