Wims, Roberts Discuss Institutional Growth and Synergy
AAMU and Auburn University Presidents Meet on The Hill
Dr. Daniel K. Wims, president of Alabama A&M University (AAMU), recently welcomed
Dr. Christopher B. Roberts, president of Auburn University, in his first visit to
the campus of the largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the
state, AAMU.
During this historic meeting, the leaders of both institutions discussed institutional
growth, partnerships and the future impact of both public land-grant universities
to the state. Additionally, Wims and Roberts discussed possibilities of pipelining
AAMU students into various joint degree and graduate school opportunities at Auburn.
“As land-grant universities, we share a focus of addressing the educational, economic,
and workforce needs of our community,” said Dr. Wims. “Our universities promote the
public benefit to higher education and provide students with affordable access to
career-oriented paths in agriculture, science and engineering, military science, and
the liberal arts.”
Upon conclusion of the AAMU campus visit, both presidents traveled to the Graham Farm
and Nature Center. Located 33 miles east of AAMU in Jackson County, Graham Farm is
the educational outreach location for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System which
is managed by Auburn. While there, Drs. Wims and Roberts viewed the new developments
currently under construction to include an outdoor covered pavilion and recreation
area, a commercial kitchen, and office spaces.
The two largest land-grant institutions in the state, AAMU and Auburn, expressed sincere
commitment to continued partnerships to make Alabama better.
