Alabama A&M Aims to Raise $15 Million in Individual Gifts During Anniversary Year

Torchbearer Initiative Surpasses $1 Million Goal in AAMU 150th Campaign
Alabama A&M University’s campaign to raise a record-setting $150 million - $15 million through individual gifts – reached another milestone today as the campaign’s Torchbearers initiative officially surpassed its goal of $1 million raised.
The Torchbearer initiative is part of the ongoing campaign to raise $15 million through
individual donations during Alabama A&M’s 150th Anniversary year. Torchbearer receptions
bring together alumni and friends in small gatherings to raise a minimum of $25,000
per event. To date, AAMU alumni and supporters have hosted five Torchbearer events in Huntsville, AL; New York, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Birmingham, AL; and Montgomery, AL.
“We are extremely thankful for the individuals who raised their hands to lead the charge in setting a new standard for support during this anniversary year,” said Director of Development & Strategic Initiatives, Jackie Robinson. “These Torchbearers are bringing together friends, colleagues, and fellow alumni in small gatherings and large events to champion the current priorities of Alabama A&M. They’re sharing our story and making the case that support of our institution is paramount.”
The Anniversary year campaign is on pace to make history. So far, the University has
received more than $6.3 million in individual gifts toward the $15 million December
2025 goal. Thanks to the outstanding momentum of the Torchbearer initiative, the University has announced a new $2 million goal to support additional Torchbearer initiatives like the Athletics facilities initiative,
a Marching Maroon & White facility project, and an upcoming special initiative being
driven by former Student Government Presidents. A Divine 9 Challenge will also launch
soon.
With more than 30 Torchbearer events remaining through the end of 2025, Vice President
Jamal Ali is excited about the possibilities to continue to grow support for AAMU
during the sesquicentennial celebration.
“This once-in-a-lifetime celebration is unlocking a spirit of philanthropy and support
within our AAMU community,” said Ali. “It’s proving the power of our collective effort
and shows that there’s nothing we can’t do when we come together. Every day, I’m hearing
from people who want to know how they can be a part of the campaign and start new
legacies of support for Alabama A&M.”
Given the initiatives fast success, a new Torchbearers goal has been set as AAMU aims
to raise $2 million through the events by Homecoming 2025. Multiple Torchbearer events
will take place over the summer months. Visit the AAMU 150 Torchbearers Site to learn more about the initiative. Join the AAMU 150 celebration today at www.aamu.edu/150.
