Alabama A&M Band Selected for Showcase at NRG Stadium in Houston

Marching Maroon & White to Perform in 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands
The Alabama A&M University Marching Maroon & White Band has once again earned national recognition, securing a spot in the 2025 Pepsi National Battle of the Bands. The event will take place on Saturday, August 23, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
This marks the third appearance by the Marching Maroon & White at the event, which
honors the musical excellence and cultural impact of Historically Black Colleges and
Universities. The band first performed in 2015, when the event was known as the Queen
City Battle of the Bands in Charlotte, and returned in 2022 after it relocated to
Houston.
“I am very excited to be selected to be a part of this prestigious event,” said Alabama
A&M Director of Bands Carlton Wright. “It is one of the premier marching band events
in the country. Our students are thrilled for the opportunity to perform, to travel,
and to connect with their peers from other outstanding bands.
Alabama A&M will be joined by seven other bands: Albany State University, Florida A&M University, Jackson State University, Langston University, North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M University, and Texas Southern University.
The Marching Maroon & White, known as the “Showband of the South,” is no stranger
to the national spotlight. In February, the band performed at the 2025 Honda Battle of the Bands at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. In 2023, it led the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
“This is not a competition, everyone is a winner at this event,” said Wright. “The
most rewarding part is seeing our students enjoy themselves, connect with other bands,
and take pride in representing Alabama A&M on a national stage. We are looking forward
to seeing our many alumni and friends in the Houston area and putting on a great show
for them!”
