AAMU Sets New Record for Annual Scholarship Fundraiser

Record-Breaking AAMU Black-Tie Scholarship Gala Raises Over $1 Million
Before Charlie Wilson took the stage at Friday’s 25th Annual Black-Tie Scholarship
Gala, Alabama A&M University alumni and supporters made history - exceeding the event’s
$1 million fundraising goal. President Daniel K. Wims and Vice President Jamal Ali
led a charge that generated several donations on Gala night.
During this 150th Anniversary year, the University is raising a record-setting $15
million in individual gifts. Alumni, supporters, and friends are encouraged to join
the campaign by making a gift to any AAMU initiative at www.aamu.edu/150.
The Gala, presented by Alabama Power, also featured testimonials from student scholarship
recipients and recognitions of major sponsors.
New members of the Normal Legacy Society - created to honor individuals, organizations,
and corporations that have shown an extraordinary commitment to advancing AAMU’s mission
- were also inducted during the event.
Inductees included Joe & Jenifer Arrington; Karla Baker; Delta Delta Initiates, Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Henry & Ollie Gilford; William & Debra Reeves; Arthur
