Bulldog Players Productions Present ‘The Tempest’ During AAMU Homecoming Week

Alabama A&M University’s Bulldog Players Productions will present “The Tempest” as part of their third annual 'Bard in the Yard' series. This year’s production takes center stage at the Johnson Little Theatre in the Morrison Fine Arts Building during AAMU Homecoming Week on October 10, 2024, at 3:30 p.m.

This special, 35-minute, family-friendly adaptation of William Shakespeare’s final play is infused with original music composed by the AAMU student cast, using Shakespeare's own words. The cast is led by Dr. Willette Tate, AAMU and Oakwood University professor, who takes on the iconic role of Prospera. Tate, also an artist-in-residence at Lowe Mill, brings her extensive experience to this timeless tale.

The story follows Prospera, a powerful figure who uses her magical abilities to summon a storm that shipwrecks her family and a group of traitors who exiled her 12 years earlier. With the help of her spirit-servant, Ariel, Prospera plots revenge. Meanwhile, her servant Caliban conspires against her, though his plans are thwarted by Ariel. The play is about finding and giving forgiveness and the desire for power…with a sweet love story thrown in too.
