Farmer Shines in ‘Leadership Magazine’ Spotlight

Alabama A&M University rising senior J’Nyia Farmer has been featured in the Summer 2025 edition of “Leadership Magazine,” a newly launched local publication that showcases emerging voices in education and leadership. Highlighted for her impact both on and off campus, Farmer shares a story of resilience, service, and purpose that reflects the very spirit of AAMU.

“I felt incredibly honored and excited,” said Farmer. “It’s both humbling and rewarding to have my journey recognized, and I hope it inspires other students to make the most of their time at AAMU.”

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Farmer is pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in international business. A first-generation college student, she says her decision to attend Alabama A&M was cemented the moment she stepped on campus.

“When I toured the campus, I immediately felt at home,” said Farmer. “I didn’t feel like I would just be another number; I saw a place where I could make a real impact. Learning the history of the University, especially the significance behind the Bell Tower on campus, really sealed the deal for me.”

Farmer is an active presence on campus, balancing academics with leadership roles in several student organizations. She is a member of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the National Association of Black Accountants, Baptist Student Ministries and the XIXI Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity, Incorporated.

Despite enduring personal losses during her time at AAMU – including the passing of her father, aunt, and great-grandmother – Farmer emerged with a deeper sense of purpose.

“My time on The Hill has been very transformative, humbling, and impactful. While that period was extremely difficult, it helped me discover just how resilient I am,” she shared. “AAMU became a space of healing and growth for me.”

Now on track to graduate debt-free thanks to multiple scholarships, Farmer is already focused on her future.

“My next step in life is to travel, give back to others, and make a meaningful impact on someone’s life,” she said. “That’s true success to me – along with breaking generational curses and creating opportunities that extend beyond myself.”

As she looks ahead to graduation in Spring 2026, Farmer remains grounded in her values and purpose.

“My ultimate career goal is to follow wherever God leads me,” she said. “I’ve learned how to lead with purpose and behind the scenes with no recognition, serve with compassion, and stay resilient through challenges. I’m proud to represent Alabama A&M and am excited to continue making an impact wherever I go.”
