AAMU’s ‘Haunted by Holds’ Will Help Students Clear Registration Barriers

Alabama A&M University invites students to the “Haunted by Holds” event on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Knight Center Ballroom. This one-stop event will help students resolve financial and administrative holds so they can register for Spring 2026 classes and stay on track for graduation. Spring registration opens November 3.

Holds are restrictions on a student’s record that can prevent registration or other actions, such as securing housing assignments. They often result from unpaid tuition or fees, missing documentation, or required advising meetings. To remove a hold, students must address the underlying issue or meet the criteria set by the corresponding office.

Undergraduate students with an account hold preventing Spring 2026 registration are encouraged to attend. Representatives from Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Freshman Academy, Veteran Affairs, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Student Health and Counseling will be on-site. Financial aid counselors will assist with questions about financial aid holds only.

Students should check their holds in Self Service Banner before attending and contact the appropriate office if needed. At the event, they will receive personalized support, including help identifying unknown holds, completing financial aid forms, and submitting payments. Laptops and staff assistance will be available to ensure all requirements are met, allowing holds to be lifted and registration to proceed smoothly. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, and the event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

By providing this support, Alabama A&M University reinforces its commitment to student success and retention, helping every Bulldog stay on track for academic progress and timely registration. Aaron Dixon, acting assistant vice president for Student Success and executive director of the Freshman Academy, says the University aims to simplify the process for students. “This event will allow students to address any account hold in one stop. The goal is to proactively mitigate barriers to student registration.”
