As Alabama A&M University prepares to take the field against Prairie View A&M University in the inaugural HBCU Classic at Wrigley Field on May 2, Bulldog pride is building in Chicago, where alumni are gathering to celebrate a historic moment for the University.

“I truly feel that I stood on the shoulders of giants,” said Stacy Osideko-Calloway, a 2010 Alabama A&M graduate. “My instructors looked like me, and because of that, I believed in what was possible for myself.”

A native of Chicago’s West Side, Osideko-Calloway has spent more than 16 years in education and currently serves as a personalized learning coordinator for Chicago Public Schools District 299. Her career includes roles as a middle school science teacher, network instructional support specialist and interim assistant principal. She also holds two master’s degrees in educational leadership and principal preparation from Concordia University.

“The impact I am making in education right now is empowering teachers to tailor instruction and build student agency,” she said. “I support educators in helping students take ownership of their learning and growth, while reminding them of the ‘why’ behind what we do.”

In addition to her work in public education, Osideko-Calloway is the founder of STEM & Arts Academy, an enrichment program that provides hands-on learning experiences introducing students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics through creativity and the arts.

“I am passionate about equity, education and community impact, and I am committed to empowering families and inspiring the next generation of innovators,” she said.

Her decision to attend Alabama A&M was shaped by both purpose and family legacy. Seeking an opportunity to grow beyond Chicago, she found a campus community that nurtured her ambition and sense of purpose.

“I knew I wanted to become a woman of standard, knowledge and purpose, and Alabama A&M provided the environment and opportunities for me to grow into that,” she said.

While on campus, Osideko-Calloway immersed herself in student life, working as a biology lab assistant and student teacher while also hosting campus events. She was also a member of House Arrest II Dance Team Inc., an experience that strengthened her discipline, confidence and teamwork while fostering lifelong relationships.

Today, she remains actively connected through the Chicago Alumni Chapter, mentoring students and supporting the University’s continued growth and visibility.

“There are students who are looking for examples of success, and I want to be one of those examples,” she said. “There is nothing like receiving insight from someone who has successfully navigated the college experience, and I am honored to provide that for others.”

That connection will be on full display as Alabama A&M competes on one of baseball’s most iconic stages, bringing together alumni, students and supporters from across the country.

“I felt an incredible sense of Bulldog pride knowing Alabama A&M is leading the way as a trailblazer at the HBCU Classic. It’s going to be an amazing celebration of culture, legacy and unity, and I’m proud to be part of it.”
