Event Showcases HBCU Student-Athletes
Downey, Moodie, Invited to NBPA Top 50 Camp
Alabama A&M University men's basketball student-athletes Lorenzo Downey and Chad Moodie
were invited to the National Basketball Players Association Top 50 Basketball Camp,
held over the weekend.
Downey and Moodie represented the Bulldogs in the weekend-long festivities, which
featured players from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and
Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), HBCU leagues in NCAA Division I and NCAA
Division II.
During the three-day camp, players showcased their talent against their peers of the
neighboring conference through competitive games and scrimmages, participated in on-court
skill development training, and attended educational sessions curated to foster success
beyond the basketball court.
Downey, who was selected to the SWAC Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team, saw action
in 33 games last year as Alabama A&M reached the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com
Postseason Basketball Tournament. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game,
while shooting 36.5 percent from the floor.
Moodie, who was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year, played in all 35 games last season
for the Bulldogs, where he averaged 7.5 points, 3.9 boards and 1.3 blocks per game.
The Grayson, Ga. native shot 51.7 percent from the field, while averaging nearly 19.0
minutes.
