Final Summer Orientation Marks the Beginning of a New Chapter at AAMU

Alabama A&M University's S.O.A.R. Welcomes Students from Across the Nation
Alabama A&M University hosted its final Student Orientation and Registration (S.O.A.R.) session of the summer on Saturday, July 12, at the AAMU Event Center, capping a robust series of events that welcomed hundreds of students and family members to campus.
S.O.A.R. is a dynamic one-day experience designed to help incoming freshmen, transfer students, and even prospective students prepare for life on “The Hill.” The program, coordinated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, connects students with essential campus resources, academic advisors, financial aid staff, and student leaders. For many, it’s the first opportunity to build a sense of belonging at Alabama A&M.
The University strategically schedules S.O.A.R. on Saturdays to accommodate families traveling from across the country – many from six or more hours away – allowing them to arrive on Friday evening and spend a full day immersed in the AAMU experience. The orientation includes informational sessions with campus departments, class registration support, financial aid and housing assistance, campus tours, and a lunch that reflects the spirit of AAMU hospitality.
This year, to better manage attendance and extend accessibility, Alabama A&M introduced virtual weekday morning S.O.A.R. sessions on June 24 and July 8. The largest in-person session took place June 28, when more than 650 students and their families filled the Event Center to meet faculty and staff, explore academic programs, and prepare for a successful fall semester.
Faculty members from all academic colleges greeted students from tables set up throughout the second floor of the Event Center, offering guidance and insight into majors, course schedules, and opportunities for involvement and research.
With fall enrollment targets exceeding 2,000 new freshmen, S.O.A.R. continues to play a key role in ensuring that every Bulldog is equipped to succeed from day one. The sessions also serve as a recruitment touchpoint for students still considering AAMU – providing a firsthand look at the vibrant academic and community life that sets the University apart.
As the 2025–26 academic year approaches, Alabama A&M University proudly celebrates its newest Bulldogs – students ready to climb "The Hill" with purpose, preparation, and pride.
