AAMU to Host NBA HBCU Fellowship Panel, Cultivate Future Fellows

Alabama A&M University will host the NBA HBCU Fellowship Panel Discussion on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. in the Event Center, Rooms 107 and 108. The event will bring together former AAMU participants of the prestigious NBA HBCU Fellowship Program to share their experiences and advice with students interested in business careers in basketball and in sports.

Established in 2022, the NBA HBCU Fellowship Program offers undergraduate and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) a 10-week paid internship with NBA and WNBA teams and the league office. The program provides hands-on experience in departments such as marketing, communications, finance, and partnerships, helping to build a strong pipeline of diverse talent for the sports industry.

The panel will feature a group of Alabama A&M University alumni who have used their NBA HBCU Fellowship experiences to launch successful careers:

Amirah Ali, May 2025 graduate, interned with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022 as a diversity & inclusion fellow and again in 2023 as a social impact fellow. She now works in marketing at PepsiCo.

V’shonne Allen, 2023 marketing graduate and 2024 master’s in advertising graduate, interned in Community Relations in 2022 with the Dallas Mavericks and now serves as a marketing manager for Quality Control Music and a graphic designer for the Oakland Athletics.

Amiya Bowden, 2023 marketing graduate, was a 2022 NBA HBCU marketing, sales, and video production fellow with the New Orleans Pelicans and the New Orleans Saints. She is now a self-employed creative focusing on graphic design and photography.

Jaycie Coleman, 2021 communications media graduate and 2023 M.S. Communications Specialist graduate, interned in Global Partnerships with the Denver Nuggets and now works in Global Partnerships with the Atlanta Hawks.

Brian Hill, 2023 finance graduate and recent MBA recipient, interned with the Brooklyn Nets Finance Department in 2023 and served as a 2025 accounting and finance intern with the Detroit Pistons.

Collin Malone, 2023 marketing graduate, was selected as a marketing intern with the Houston Rockets. He is currently pursuing his MBA and serves as Alabama A&M University’s marketing & media relations coordinator.

Students attending the discussion will hear firsthand how these Bulldogs turned their fellowship experiences into full-time careers. Breakout sessions will give attendees a closer look at NBA departments such as marketing, partnerships, and communications, while panelists will share tips on preparing a successful fellowship application. The event will also feature networking opportunities and giveaways.

Students must register to attend.
