AAMU Hosts 2023 Louis Crews Classic Coach's Breakfast

Even after 115 years of Alabama A&M football, Louis Crews’ legacy still lives on. Students, faculty, staff, and administration gathered Thursday to attend this year's Louis Crews Classic Coach’s Breakfast in the Knight Center. The event was highlighted by many of Crews’ own players and colleagues as they celebrated his legacy and passion for football.

Known as the winningest coach in the history of the University, Louis Crews was recognized by head football coach Connell Maynor as being a “leader” and “trailblazer.” Crews graduated from Alabama A&M in 1941 as part of the first four-year class after playing quarterback and running back for the Bulldog football team. He later became coach of  both the football and baseball teams, where he acquired five SIAC championships and led the baseball team to its first and only championship.

As the University prepares to celebrate a milestone anniversary on Normal’s Hill, President Daniel K. Wims reflected on the extraordinary effort and legacy of Louis Crews.

“As we approach the 150th Anniversary of Alabama A&M in 2025, we must marshal the extraordinary spirit of AAMU to reimagine the next great era of our institution,” said Wims. “We will call on every one of you to lend your support to making this University all it can be. It will take each of us. It will take the selfless, committed, passionate, extraordinary effort of each of us here to ensure the strength and resilience of Alabama A&M for the next 150 years.”

Alabama A&M Football will host Lane College in the Louis Crews Classic game at 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Classic events conclude Sunday with the Cruising at Crews Car and Bike Show.
