AAMU Alumna Wins Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand Award
Gates, Busy Bee Cafe Earn Prestigious Michelin Honor
Alabama A&M University alumna and restauranteur Tracy Gates is the owner of Atlanta’s Busy Bee Café. The soul food spot recently earned the prestigious Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand Award - a distinction that recognizes establishments that are less expensive than starred restaurants.
At the inaugural Michelin ceremony last month, Atlanta became the latest city with a Michelin guide as Michelin continues to expand its recognitions beyond the coastal dining hubs like New York and California. Five Atlanta restaurants received stars. Ten eateries earned the Bib Gourmands distinction.
The Busy Bee, known as “the South on a plate”, has served guest for over 74 years and was a frequented landmark and meeting place for Civil Rights Movement leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis.
Last week, Gates was inducted into the Georgia Hospitality Hall of Fame.
