Hampton Earns Prestigious Law Firm Award

AAMU alum Leon Hampton, Jr. recently received the Beasley Allen Law Firm’s prestigious Chad Stewart Award for 2023

Hampton works in Beasley Allen's Montgomery office in the Consumer Fraud Division. The firm has offices in Dallas, Atlanta. Mobile and Montgomery. The Chad Stewart Award is named after Beasley Allen lawyer Chad Stewart and is presented annually to a lawyer within the firm who best exemplifies the qualities the late Chad Stewart demonstrated in his life and law practice.

“I am humbled that the executive board chose me to receive the Chad Stewart Award,” said Hampton. “By all accounts Chad was an exceptional attorney who honored God, his family, and the practice of law in that order. Many of my colleagues live by the same mantra and that’s what makes Beasley Allen a special place. I’m grateful to practice law alongside such a devoted group of lawyers.”

Hampton earned his secondary education degree at AAMU in 2010 and his Juris Doctorate from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in 2013. While in law school, he clerked for the Attorney General’s office and the personal injury/product liability section of Beasley Allen.

Hampton now handles whistleblower, workers compensation, hostile workplace, bad faith insurance, and employment discrimination claims. Since joining the firm in 2017, Hampton has helped his firm secure more than $22 million in settlements and verdicts.

“Practicing law is one of the great joys of my life," he said.  "As a trial lawyer, I get a chance to use my gifts and talents to help others during their time of need – which is very rewarding.”

Hampton served as the 2020-21 President of the Alabama Lawyers Association, the oldest and largest minority bar association in the state of Alabama. In 2020, he was selected for the Alabama State Bar’s Leadership Forum (Class 15). In 2021, he was selected to serve as a Commissioner for the Alabama State Bar. In 2023, he was selected to serve on Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Advisory Board.

A member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Hampton also serves on the Board of Directors for Legal Services of Alabama, Salvation Army, the Mercy House, Mentors of Montgomery, and as an ex officio executive council member of the Alabama State Bar.

“Some of the most important years of my life were spent on The Hill," said Hampton. "Being on a campus established by a former slave gave me a great sense of hope and reinforced my belief that anything is possible with God’s help.”
