3,477 Students Honored During Annual Convocation

Alabama A&M Recognizes Record Honor Students in Annual Convocation
Hundreds of proud family members filled the AAMU Event Center to celebrate as Alabama
A&M University recognized its highest-achieving scholars during its annual honors
convocation. Moments of applause echoing the discipline, sacrifice, and excellence
behind each name called. In total, 3,477 students were named to the Honor Roll with
a 3.0 GPA or higher.
“At Alabama A&M University, our commitment to student success is unwavering,” said
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. John Jones. “We take great pride
in recognizing those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence in
their academic pursuits.”
The University also recognized its Honors Program students and Outstanding College Scholars, including McKinley Dunford (College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences), Emilio Angel Gallon (College of Business and Public Affairs), Taylor Hunter (College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences), and Terry Zion Dukes (College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Science).
Among the highlights of the many superlatives, 113 students earned the Freshman President’s
Award - achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA in their first semester. The AAMU Honda Campus
All-Star Challenge team was also recognized for recently advancing to the National
Championship later this month.
Additional honors included the Kenneth W. Gunn Outstanding Scholar Athlete Award (Laila
Gaynor) and the Outstanding Senior Award (Elton Mawire). President Daniel K. Wims
challenged honorees to continue leading with excellence.
“You are the scholars. You are the leaders,” Wims said. “You set the tone for this
institution and the legacy of The Hill.”
