Move-In Underway at New Off-Campus Apartment Sites

Alabama A&M University recently announced expanded options to address the impacts of the national shortage of affordable student housing. Through a new master leasing partnership, AAMU has secured spaces at three area apartment communities – The Lofts at Dallas Mill, The Kelvin, and The Constellation.

Starting this weekend, upperclassmen students assigned to the new apartments are beginning move-in. Senior biology major Cameron Gildersleeve says his place at The Lofts at Dallas Mill is close to campus and provides new conveniences and amenities.

“The amenities here are spectacular,” said Gildersleeve. “Although I’m really close to campus, I also like that it gives me that space to get off campus as well.”

For added convenience, the University is providing 18-hour shuttle service to and from campus. Students will also have access to AAMU internet connectivity and residential staff on-site at the new locations. While AAMU provides campus housing for a larger percent of its students than most colleges and universities, Gildersleeve says he’s pleased that the University is still trying to do more to help students.

“Alabama A&M is going above and beyond,” he said. “Everything you need, they’re really bringing it to you here. I wanted to be somewhere where I know it’s safe, and I want to know the commute to school is short. All of that is in place.”

As of this week, all students who submitted housing applications by the spring deadline have received an assignment. The small number of students who remain on the housing waitlist are advised to monitor closely all AAMU emails. If students do not hold a Fall 2023 housing assignment and/or are not currently on the Fall 2023 housing waitlist, room assignments will not be made for the fall semester.
