Lawhorn to Deliver Keynote Address
AAMU to Welcome New Students in 2024 Freshman Convocation & Torch Lighting Ceremony August 10
Alabama A&M University will welcome the Class of 2028 at the 2024 Freshman Convocation and Torch Lighting Ceremony Saturday, August 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the Event Center. This event, a cornerstone of the University’s traditions, is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
The keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony is Ashley Lawhorn, a distinguished fashion and lifestyle influencer. Lawhorn's entrepreneurial journey began in high school, where she sold snacks, juice, and even vacuums. Her ambition and determination led her from her hometown of Detroit to Alabama A&M, where she earned a liberal arts degree in 2019.
Today, Lawhorn is a multifaceted entrepreneur, mother, author, and the owner of Kuhrizmuh Fashion Company, a boutique store in Huntsville, Alabama. She also runs her own fashion brand, Kuhrizmuh LLC. In 2022, she was honored as Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2nd Annual Women’s Expo and has been featured in Forbes and Voyage ATL magazines.
The Freshman Convocation & Torch Lighting Ceremony is a mandatory event for all freshmen. Doors will open at 3:00 p.m., and families are encouraged to attend. Please note that only clear bags will be permitted. Freshmen are required to line up at Louis Crews Stadium at 3:00 p.m. and must wear the provided polo shirt, black pants, and comfortable shoes (no jeans).
