Mental Wellness & Mindfulness in Bloom Symposium for Students, Community
Trey Flowers, Jason Wilson Headline AAMU Mental Health Symposium
NFL player Trey Flowers, best-selling author Jason Wilson and Psychiatrist Dr. Dawn Kamilah Brown will headline a mental health symposium for students and the community on Saturday, April 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.in the AAMU Student Health & Wellness Center.
The Alabama A&M University Office of Residential Life and Housing, Inter-Residential Hall Counsel, and Student Health and Counseling have partnered with Flowers of the Future Foundation, Inc. to sponsor the symposium.
NFL veteran Trey Flowers, who grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, founded Flowers of the Future in 2019 to help at risk youth by providing back to school drives, meal distribution, scholarships and more. Because of his community efforts and foundation’s mission, Flowers was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for the Detroit Lions in 2020.
The mental health symposium will consist of a panel discussion featuring experts and advocates in mental health and mindfulness. Panelists include:
Dr. Dawn Kamilah Brown, psychiatrist and consultant for elite college athletes, the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB and Olympians. Brown is also a distinguished ADHD expert and founder and CEO of Mental Healthletics PLLC™ and ADHD Wellness Center PLLC in Houston.
Best-selling author Jason Wilson. Wilson is the visionary founder of The Yunion, a Detroit-based non-profit dedicated to youth development that has helped over 17,000 Metro Detroit youth.
Other panelists include Senior Behavioral Specialist Jared Green; Licensed Professional Counselor, Mental Trainer and Entrepreneur Dr. Ahada McCummings; and Licensed Professional Counselor and Owner of Graceland Therapeutics LLC, Jilian Pelzer. Erica Fox, Program Director for WJAB-FM, will be the moderator.
“We expect more than 200 students and community members in attendance,” says Flowers. “We are looking forward to effecting change on the Alabama A&M University campus and in the community.”
