Morris and Stephens Residence Halls to Reopen at Alabama A&M
Alabama A&M University will celebrate the completion of major renovations to two longstanding
residence halls with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m. The event will recognize the transformation of Morris Hall and Stephens Hall, representing
a combined investment of approximately $21 million in student housing and campus infrastructure.
Originally opened in 1972 and 1981, respectively, Morris Hall and Stephens Hall have served generations of Bulldogs. Both facilities have been offline for 3 semesters
while undergoing comprehensive renovations designed to enhance student comfort, safety,
accessibility and academic success.
The upgraded residence halls feature modernized living environments, including new
flooring, wall and ceiling finishes, new furniture, enhanced laundry facilities, and
dedicated study and lounge spaces on every floor. Morris Hall now offers Jack-and-Jill
style suites with private bathrooms, while both halls received new HVAC systems that
allow students to individually control room temperatures.
Additional improvements include new roofs, energy-efficient windows and curtainwall
systems, ADA-compliant elevators with two-way communication, upgraded Wi-Fi and data
infrastructure, enhanced fire alarm and security systems, and new doors and hardware
throughout each building.
Together, the facilities will accommodate more than 280 students, providing modern
residential spaces that support student well-being, social engagement and academic
achievement.
“These renovations reflect Alabama A&M University's commitment to creating an exceptional
student experience,” said Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Management
Dr. Braque Talley. “The improvements provide students with a modern, comfortable and
secure environment that supports learning, community building and personal growth.”
The residence hall projects are part of a broader campus modernization effort currently
underway. Additional projects include the ongoing construction of the new student
center, new science building, renovations to Carnegie Hall, HVAC and interior improvements
to Patton Hall, accessibility upgrades across multiple campus buildings, improvements
to Morrison Fine Arts, a new dental clinic in Knight Hall, and expanded campus infrastructure
enhancements.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Morris Hall and is open to members
of the university community and invited guests.
