Move-In Day Marks the Beginning of a New Chapter for AAMU’s Newest Bulldogs

The wait is finally over. On August 14, Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University came alive as students and families arrived on campus for Move-In Day, officially kicking off a new chapter for the incoming Class of 2030.

From packed cars and moving boxes to excited families and eager students, the energy across campus was impossible to miss. The halls of the Knight Living and Learning Complex and Hugine Complex were filled with students settling into their new homes, meeting new roommates, and beginning what will become some of their most memorable years as Bulldogs.

For many freshmen, Move-In Day is more than simply unpacking a room. It is the moment when college starts to feel real. Students are leaving behind familiar surroundings and stepping into a new environment filled with new opportunities, friendships, organizations, classes, and experiences.

While freshmen were busy getting settled, student leaders and campus organizations were already on the ground, helping make the transition as welcoming as possible.

Among those serving students was P. Carsten Finkley, representing the Delta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Although the Alabama heat made the day a workout of its own, Finkley said being able to welcome the newest Bulldogs made it worth it.

“My moving day is… hey, it’s going,” Finkley joked. “I’m sweating, you know what I’m saying? I got a little pump going.”

Behind the humor was a genuine sense of pride in being able to give back to incoming students.

“It’s always a pleasure to serve the incoming freshmen, the Alabama A&M warm welcome to the Class of 2030,” Finkley said.

That spirit of service was reflected throughout campus as student organizations stepped up to assist freshmen and their families. For many current students, helping with Move-In Day is a chance to remember where they started and give new students the same support they received when they first arrived at Alabama A&M.

Justin Richard of SGA shared that perspective, explaining why giving back during Move-In Day is important to him.

“It’s being able to give back to the freshmen and helping like I was helped my freshman year,” Richard said.

His words capture one of the biggest parts of the Alabama A&M experience: Bulldogs helping Bulldogs.

Move-In Day is a community effort. Families arrive with vehicles full of belongings, students carry boxes into their new rooms, and organizations across campus work together to make sure the newest members of the Bulldog family feel welcomed. From carrying belongings to answering questions, student leaders help transform what can be an overwhelming day into an exciting introduction to college life.

For the Class of 2030, the day marks the beginning of a journey that will extend far beyond the residence halls. These students are now part of a university community built on tradition, leadership, service, education, and Bulldog pride.

Keshawn, representing the AAMU University Echoes, also reflected on returning to campus and being part of another Move-In Day.

“It’s a new year, but we’re here again, welcoming the Class of 2030,” Keshawn shared.

And just like that, a new class has officially arrived.

As students continue unpacking their belongings and making their rooms feel like home, they are also beginning to build the foundation for their college experience. The friendships made in residence halls, the organizations they join, the professors they meet, and the challenges they overcome will all become part of their Alabama A&M story.

For parents and families, Move-In Day represents a proud milestone. For returning students, it is the beginning of another year of growth. And for the Class of 2030, it is the first page of a brand-new chapter.

The halls of Knight Living and Learning Complex and Hugine Complex may be filled with boxes today, but soon they will be filled with late-night conversations, study sessions, laughter, friendships, and memories that students will carry with them long after graduation.

As Alabama A&M welcomes its newest Bulldogs, one thing is clear: the Class of 2030 has officially arrived, and the Hill is ready for them.
