AAMU and Drake State to Host 2025 TMCF SOAR HBCU Scholars Program

Alabama A&M University and Drake State Community and Technical College will host the 2025 Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) SOAR Scholars Program July 6-11, 2025. The TMCF HBCU Scholars Program is open to high school juniors (Class of 2026). During the week-long program, participants will convene on campus for seminars, presentations, networking opportunities, workshops on college admissions, and interaction with HBCU students and alumni.

The free program covers expenses including housing, meals, materials, supplies, and activities. Travel expenses are not covered. Applicants must graduate in 2026, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and write a personal statement. Students may complete the online application for consideration before the April 15 deadline HERE.

This program aims to serve students by providing a unique opportunity to learn about HBCU and HBCC institutions, college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship resources. The program also allows students to explore academic majors and career pathways.

“Last year, we had over 70 students engage in a week filled with cultural and academic activities mixed in with a whole lot of fun,” says Dr. Vernessa Edwards, STEM Co-Director with AAMU Teach, and Summer Programs Coordinator. “We look forward to seeing you SOAR on The Hill this summer.”
