AAMU Reopens Newly Renovated ‘Bulldog Lanes’

Alabama A&M University celebrated the grand reopening of the Bulldog Lanes bowling alley with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The reopening introduces significant upgrades that enhance the experience for students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Located in the Wellness Center and originally built in 2010, Bulldog Lanes has undergone a complete transformation over the last year. The facility now features six state-of-the-art QuBica AMF bowling lanes, along with upgraded scoring and pin-setting systems. Other enhancements include new QuBica AMF Edge String pins, and new bowling balls and shoes.

The installation of new carpet, fresh paint, and AAMU branded seating and ball return racks adds a vibrant new feel to the space.

“This upgraded facility is a space for recreation, a space for our students, faculty and staff and the broader community to come together and engage in friendly competition and unwind,” said President Daniel K. Wims. “We invite everyone, whether you’re a seasoned bowler or first-time visitor, to take advantage of this wonderful new resource.”

The renovation, completed in November 2024, represents a significant investment as part of AAMU’s strategic plan led by the Office of Student Affairs. It follows earlier updates in 2022, which included cameras, computer systems, and keypad upgrades. Dr. Braque Talley, Vice President for Student Affairs, emphasized the importance of bringing the project to life.

“We really appreciate the collaboration of athletics and student affairs; that’s what we have to do as a community, to come together to support our students,” said Talley. “This is an opportunity for our students and for the surrounding community to come together. We look forward to celebrating and enjoying this facility with you.”

Bulldog Lanes is open to students, faculty, staff, gym members, and the general public for rentals and reservations. The new hours of operation are 5:00 p.m.  – 9:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday), 11:00 a.m.  – 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1:00 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The AAMU Lady Bulldogs bowling team will also return to the upgraded facility which will support both athletic training and community engagement.

For students, the bowling alley serves as more than just a recreational facility. “Bulldog Lanes is really a space for us to have a little fun, connect, and escape from the academic stress,” said Mya Gibbs, President of the Student Government Association. “It’s open to the community, so it’s also a great space for us to make new bonds with the people of Huntsville and cultivate our fellowship as Bulldogs.”
