AAMU Alum Joins Council to Support Mayoral Initiatives
Smith Selected to Montgomery Mayor's Young Professional Council
The City of Montgomery and Mayor Steven Reed recently announced Alabama A&M Alum Austin Smith ’22 was selected to the Mayor’s 2023-24 Young Professional Council (MYPC).
“I’ve been working hard to get back to the city I grew up in to make a difference," said Smith. "Being selected is truly an honor and a full circle moment for me. I’m ready to get to work.”
Members of the council share ideas and concerns with the Mayor about issues in the city, help the Mayor identify young professionals that can be apppointed to positions in city government, and lead initiatives that help advance the MYPC mission.
Smith, a former SGA President, earned a civil engineering degree at AAMU and is an environmental engineer at Jacobs Engineering Group. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Eta Kappa Tau, Engineering and Technology Fraternity, Inc.; and Vice Chair of Youth Affairs for the Montgomery Democratic Party.
