Stallworth, Smitherman to Speak at 2024 Commencement Ceremonies

Alabama A&M to Host Founder’s Day, 2024 Commencements May 3
Alabama A&M University will celebrate the 149th Founder’s Day and Spring Commencement on Friday, May 3, 2024. Alumni, students, families, and friends of AAMU are invited to celebrate at commemorative
events and separate commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate degree
candidates.
AAMU will welcome NFL Hall of Famer John Stallworth and Alabama State Senator Rodger M. Smitherman as speakers for its 2024 undergraduate and graduate Spring Commencement ceremonies
respectively. Commencement for graduate candidates is set for 9:00 a.m. with the undergraduate
ceremony to follow at 5:00 p.m. Both programs will be held at the AAMU Event Center.
The Honorable Rodger M. Smitherman will serve as speaker at the 9:00 a.m. graduate
ceremony. Currently serving his sixth term as Senator for Alabama’s 18th District, Smitherman is a 25-year veteran Constitutional Law professor and practicing
attorney. Alabama A&M Alumnus John Stallworth will serve as speaker at the 5:00 p.m.
undergraduate ceremony. The retired Pittsburgh Steeler great is also former President
and CEO of the Madison Research Corporation and currently serves as the Chair of AAMU’s
150th Anniversary Celebration Committee.
A full day of celebrations on The Hill includes:
- 9:00 a.m. – Spring 2024 Commencement (Graduate Candidates)
- 12:00 p.m. – 149th Founder’s Day Convocation – Bradford Auditorium at Buchanan Hall
- 1:00 p.m. – Wreath Laying Ceremony at W.H. Councill Eternal Flame Memorial – The Block
- 2:00 p.m. – Founder’s Day Luncheon – Ernest Knight Reception Center (invitation only)
- 5:00 p.m. – Spring 2024 Commencement (Undergraduate Candidates)
