Department of Social Work Hosts 4th Annual Child Welfare Day Conference

The Alabama A&M University Department of Social Work will host the 4th Annual Child Welfare Day Conference on Tuesday, April 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bradford Auditorium in Buchanan Hall. The event serves as a dynamic platform for students, faculty, and professionals to engage in critical discussions surrounding child welfare, offering valuable insights from experts in the field.

Bringing together representatives from local and state Departments of Human Resources (DHR), child welfare advocates, and mental health professionals, the conference will explore a range of pressing topics. Attendees will gain knowledge on trauma-informed care, mental health challenges, foster care dynamics, and the evolving role of social work in child welfare. The program also highlights student presentations, allowing emerging professionals to share firsthand experiences from their field practicums.

This one-day event provides a unique opportunity for social work practitioners, students, and child welfare professionals to expand their expertise and earn continuing education credits. With a strong emphasis on culturally responsive practices and preventative strategies, the conference aligns with the core mission of Child Welfare Services – protecting children and strengthening families.

Additionally, the conference encourages undergraduate and graduate social work students to consider careers in child welfare, and provides the opportunity to apply for the Title IV-E stipend program. This initiative provides financial support, mentorship, and hands-on coaching from experienced professionals, fostering the next generation of child welfare leaders.

Funded through the Title IV-E grant, the Child Welfare Day Conference is open to the public, but registration is required. Attendees can expect an enriching day of innovative discussions and networking opportunities.
