Homecoming 2024 Shines as Historic Celebration – A Week of Unforgettable Moments

Alabama A&M University’s Homecoming 2024, themed “Channel 1875,” was a week that will go down in history, filled with vibrant celebrations, reunions, and Bulldog pride. The highly anticipated event kicked off on Saturday, October 5, and drew students and alumni from across the country for a whirlwind of excitement and tradition, setting new records and raising the bar for future homecomings.

Explosive Start to a Record-Breaking Week The festivities ignited with a Dusk Til Dawn Fireworks Kickoff Party on The Quad, lighting up the night sky and setting the tone for the week ahead. Sunday’s Gospel Explosion brought soul-stirring performances from Grammy-winning artist Leandria Johnson and Pastor Mike Jr., energizing the crowd.

Epic Events Throughout the Week Every day brought something new and unforgettable. Monday began with the William Hooper Council Wreath Laying Ceremony. The afternoon saw Bulldogs taking a nostalgic trip with the “Don’t Be a Menace to A&M Cookout” and a thrilling basketball game. Tuesday heated up with Recipes from the Vault hosted by Chef Cam, a celebration of culinary tradition, while later that night, students and alumni laced up their skates for the funky “Bulldog Groove Skate Night.”

The week continued with show-stopping events like Wednesday’s Staff Yard Show and “Ward Modeling Troop Fashion Show,” where fashion and talent collided. Thursday featured the Bulldog Players' Showcase of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” and events off campus, including the Alumni Golf Tournament at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and the Alumni Pep Rally at The Dome at Orion. The day ended with the uproarious Comedy Show featuring D.C. Young Fly at the Event Center, leaving everyone in stitches.

Celebration and Tradition Take Center Stage Friday’s celebrations were all about alumni, starting with a live broadcast from 94.1 WHRP, followed by a Class Reunion Brunch, a packed Alumni Block Party and an unforgettable Homecoming Day Party featuring King George, Element XI, and FPJ. The night wrapped up with the exhilarating NPHC Step Show and the Alumni Homecoming Affair at Stovehouse.

Game Day Glory and Star-Studded Performances Saturday was the pinnacle of the week, with the HBCU GO Pregame Live Show, thousands lining the streets for the Homecoming Parade and what turned out to be massive Tailgating. The 2:00 p.m. showdown at Louis Crews Stadium saw the Bulldogs victorious over the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University 56-12, with an announced attendance of 19,727 – the fifth largest crowd in stadium history. The celebrations didn’t end there. A Hip-Hop Concert featuring GloRilla, Boosie, and Big Boogie brought the energy to new heights, followed by the legendary 1875 After Party with performances by Cupid and Doug E. Fresh.

A Celebration of Legacy and the Future Alabama A&M University received $2,498,274.00 in donations during last week’s Homecoming festivities - setting a new record for the second consecutive year and outpacing last year’s total by over $1.1 million.
