AAMU '11 Alumna Focused on Women's Wellness

Tilley Finds Ways to Impact Wellness for Women in Huntsville
AAMU Alumna Waikikita Tilley is finding ways to make an impact in her community beyond her field. The senior systems engineer says as Huntsville continues to grow, it is important to create platforms for enrichment and place-finding for the many newcomers who now call the city home.
“Huntsville is so unique for younger career-seekers and entrepreneurs,” said Tilley. “The economy is thriving. The cost of living is affordable, and the cultural attractions are constantly growing.”
The Killeen, TX native says her #AAMUstory is rooted in the opportunities provided to her on The Hill and in Huntsville.
“I had the privilege of studying and graduating with honors,” she said. “I was involved
in several organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Gamma Mu Chapter,
and Eta Kappa Tau Engineering and Technology Fraternity. I was Miss Senior 2010-2011
and served in the University Echoes program.”
The 2011 graduate says her academic and professional background help foster her desire
to always find solutions. She spends her weekends managing her Waikiki Pro Makeup
brand. Now, she’s laser-focused on tackling the challenges facing women and creating
avenues for them to experience all-around wellness in Huntsville.
“As an engineer, critical thinking, creativity, and information processing have been valuable assets that allow me to break down difficult programs into manageable solutions,” she said. “The most enjoyable aspect of life for me is impactfully transforming women beyond the physical. That's why I've developed programs to bring attention to wellness."
Next month, Tilley will host the A Woman’s Worth Huntsville retreat – a gathering designed to uplift women. The two-day retreat focuses on mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial wellness.
“Our main goal is for women to leave with the tools necessary to continue to thrive,” she said. “In this inaugural event, we aim to help women recognize their inherent value, build self-confidence, and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive environment.”
