AAMU Extends Free Tax Clinic

Because the state of Alabama has extended the filing deadline to May 1, 2025, Alabama A&M University has extended its Free Tax Clinic. The clinic will be open Saturday, April 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Thursday, May 1, from noon to 6:00 p.m. in the Welcome Center.

The clinic offered free tax preparation services to the community through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program on April 12, 14 and 16.

Hosted by the College of Business and Public Affairs, the Tax Clinic provides complimentary income tax preparation for qualifying individuals and families in the area. AAMU is the only HBCU to receive a VITA Grant.

The clinic is staffed by more than 30 trained business, finance, and accounting student volunteers who work under the guidance of experienced faculty and certified professionals. This initiative not only serves as a valuable resource for the community but also offers a hands-on learning opportunity for students to develop practical financial skills.

What to Bring:

  • A valid photo ID
  • Social Security cards or ITINs for yourself, your spouse, and any dependents
  • Proof of income (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
  • Any additional tax-related documents

In addition to filing current-year tax returns, volunteers will also assist with tax extension filings for those who need more time to submit their documents.

“This is more than just a tax service – it’s about empowering our community with financial knowledge and support,” said Dr. Felicia Farrar, CPA, CFE. “It’s also a great opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience while giving back.” The Tax Clinic aligns with Alabama A&M University’s broader mission to enhance financial literacy, promote economic equity, and support underserved communities.

All services offered through the clinic are confidential, accurate, and completely free of charge.
