AAMU Wins Shorty for Social Media Creativity Among Educational Institutions

Alabama A&M Marketing Team Earns First Shorty Award
This week, the AAMU Office of Marketing, Communications, and Advancement notched an
additional awards season win at the 2025 Shorty Awards. Alabama A&M University was announced as the winner of the Education category which honors the most effective and creative use of social/digital platforms by educational
institutions, programs and services.
With submissions representing a wide range of industries, voices, and platforms, the
17th Annual Shorty Awards underscored the growing influence of digital and social
media as drivers of innovation, brand identity, brand identity, and cultural leadership.
AAMU Marketing and Media Relations Coordinator Collin Malone was on-hand at the ceremony
held in New York, NY.
"It's an honor to bring home this honor to Alabama's largest HBCU," said Malone. "This
recognition is a tribute to the hard work of our entire team and our production partners."
Alabama A&M’s win – for its 2024 Rivalry Week Series – marked the first in the institution’s history. The branded video series celebrating
the Magic City Classic was produced by JTWO films. Other honorees included Google,
MTV, PetSmart, Dunkin’, Visa, Disney+, Nickelodeon, and more.
“The Shorty Awards have grown alongside a creator economy now reshaping media, business, and culture,” said Junmian Sun, Managing Director of the Shorty Awards. “What excited me most isn’t just the innovation we see, it’s the ownership, the community-building, and the reinvention of storytelling in real time.”
The Shorty Awards (also known as “The Shortys”) honors the most innovative work in
digital and social media by brands, agencies and organizations. The Shortys’ mission
is to celebrate, inspire and push the boundaries of excellence in digital storytelling.
"This milestone recognition adds to a year that really focused on taking the AAMU
brand into new territory," said Assistant Vice President Aaron J Thompson. "The Shortys
place our team in good company and serves as motivation to push the boundaries of
creativity in order to shine the brightest light possible on Alabama A&M University."
