College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences Earns Reaccreditation Through 2032

The Alabama A&M University College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences (CEHBS) announces its successful reaccreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) – a significant milestone that reflects the college’s unwavering commitment to excellence in educator preparation and academic rigor.

Over the past two years, the Office of the Dean, Department of Teacher Education and Leadership and Educator Preparation & Field Experiences & School Partnerships worked collaboratively and tirelessly to ensure every standard was met and or exceeded. From continuously improving assessment systems and aligning curriculum to national standards, to strengthening clinical partnerships and enhancing candidate support services, the work was both intensive and transformative.

“This reaccreditation affirms the substance in our programs and that we meet national standards as it relates to our curriculum and highly qualified faculty,” said Dr. Peter Eley, Dean of the College of Education Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. “It also speaks to our commitment to continuous improvement in CEHBS and as we continue to prepare quality teachers that are highly competitive nationally.”

CAEP’s rigorous standards emphasize not only content and pedagogy but also continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and a strong commitment to equity and excellence. During the review process, CEHBS submitted a self-study report and hosted a virtual site visit with external reviewers who examined everything from faculty credentials to student outcomes and stakeholder engagement.

Looking Ahead

With reaccreditation secured through 2032, CEHBS is not slowing down and is using the feedback from the CAEP review to strengthen areas for growth and continuing innovation in the preparation of future educators.

“Reaccreditation is not the end – it’s the beginning of another chapter in our history as we pivot to include forward thinking concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more innovate learning ecosystems in teacher education preparation,” said Eley. “We will continue to prepare our students to start here and go anywhere.”

Eley adds the successful reaccreditation is a testament to the dedication of every faculty member, staff member, student, and community partner who contributed to this achievement. “Together, Alabama A&M University reaffirms its place as a leader in educator preparation.”
