AAMU and Drake State Invite High School Juniors to TMCF SOAR HBCU Scholars Program
High-achieving high school juniors can now apply for The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Seeking, Observing and Achieving Results (SOAR) HBCU Scholars Program. The program is a joint partnership with TMCF, Alabama A&M University and J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College.
The free one-week residential summer program allows high school juniors (rising seniors) to live on campus and learn about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs), college admission, financial aid and scholarship resources.
“Alabama A&M University is uniquely positioned to present this new opportunity to rising senior high school students,” says Dr. Vernessa Edwards, AAMU Assistant Professor of Physics and Summer Programs Coordinator. “The Thurgood Marshall College Fund is dedicated to transforming the lives of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and we are excited to partner with them for a memorable week-long experience submerged in culture on the hill. Start here, go anywhere.”
The program runs July 7 – 12, 2024 and is free for all participants. Students must apply by the Monday, April 15, 2024 deadline.
“We at Drake State are honored by the opportunity that the TMCF HBCU SOAR Scholars program presents for rising seniors to immerse themselves in the operational dynamics of an HBCU and HBCC, while embracing the residential college experience,” says Dr. Nicole Bell, Dean of Students at Drake State. “It is with great pride that we anticipate showcasing the diverse array of offerings at Drake State, particularly within our valued technical programs, which serve as catalysts for financial stability and promising career prospects. Together, as stewards of higher education, HBCUs and HBCCs empower countless lives, leaving a lasting mark on our collective future.”
