Board of Trustees Approves FY24 Budget, No Tuition Increase

Huntsville, Ala. – In its meeting on June 23, 2023, the Alabama A&M University Board of Trustees approved a $241 million budget for fiscal year 2024 - an increase of 11.5 percent compared to FY23. Trustees also voted not to raise tuition for the 2023-24 academic year. At the quarterly meeting, the Board cleared the way for realignment of several offices, approved a new minor in theater and welcomed new Trustees Dr. Elizabeth B. Richardson and Mr. Ralph Williams, Jr.

Other business included the approval of revisions to the 2015-2025 University Master Plan, the conversion of the M.S. in Communication Specialist to a fully-online program format, and a new Minor in Theatre.

The following MOUs also earned Board approval:

  • MOU with Kumaski Technical University
  • MOU with Councill Training Alumni
  • MOU with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency / City of Huntsville

In his remarks, President Wims highlighted new state appropriations during FY23 through the work of government affairs efforts, SACSCOC accreditation reaffirmation updates, projected enrollment increases, and enhancements to student engagement and campus safety.  Additionally, stabilization of information technology across campus, increased revenue from grants and contracts, and receipt of the highest valued land and facility gift in the university’s history.

Wims touted enhancements to marketing, communications, and advancement efforts, the record-setting success of the Black-Tie Scholarship Gala, and the creation of the Athletics Events Task Force leading the work to enhance AAMU Athletics’ marketability, revenue and brand.

President Wims also introduced and welcomed new Huntsville City School Superintendent, Dr. Clarence Sutton, and welcomed special guests including Mr. Themika Sims, visitors from the Jackson County School Board, and Councill Training alumni representatives.
