AAMU ’25 Horne to Accept Role at Cat Financial After Graduation

Graduating senior Donovan Horne is heading to Nashville with a full-time offer from Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. The global company provides financing solutions for equipment, engines, and services to customers and dealers around the world. The opportunity follows a successful experience with the company last summer.

“This position came from my internship with Cat Financial,” he said. “I’ll be entering a finance rotational program, working across several departments to gain the experience I’ll need to prepare for a future management role. I’m also looking forward to building strong connections throughout the company.”

A business administration major with a concentration in management information systems, Horne transferred to Alabama A&M University from Florida International University two years ago. Originally from Orlando, Florida, he was awarded both a merit scholarship and a track and field scholarship to join the Bulldogs, where he competed as a sprinter.

“I chose Alabama A&M because of the scholarship opportunities,” he said. “It showed me the University is truly committed to helping students succeed.”

As he prepares to take the next step in his career, Horne reflects on what he’ll miss most about Alabama A&M.

“The Career Development Services events were incredibly helpful,” said Horne. “They really positioned me to land the internship that led to this job. I’ll also miss being close to my friends. When you’re all in the same environment, it’s easier to stay connected. And I’ll miss joking with my professors. It made class more enjoyable and helped build real relationships.”

Looking ahead, Horne hopes to channel the skills and insights he gains from the corporate world into launching his own nonprofit organization. It’s a long-term goal shaped by the values and lessons he learned on The Hill.

“One of the biggest things I’ve learned here is the importance of persistence,” he said. “If you want something to happen, you have to follow through. Staying on top of things doesn’t make you a bother – it shows that you care and that you’re committed.”

Alabama A&M University will host its Spring 2025 Commencement Ceremonies at the Event Center on Friday, May 9. The ceremony for graduate candidates will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
