AAMU ’25 Hudson Secures Role with USDA

As she prepares to graduate, Alabama A&M University senior Kelly Hudson has already secured an exciting career opportunity with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service. Starting this summer, Hudson will be working on agricultural trade and policy initiatives, a role that perfectly aligns with her passion for global economic development.

“I’m thrilled to dive into global agricultural trade and policy,” Hudson shared. “This opportunity allows me to collaborate with international partners and explore how agriculture can serve as a driver for economic growth worldwide.

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Hudson’s decision to attend Alabama A&M was deeply personal.

“Most of my family attended AAMU and I wanted to continue that tradition,” she said. “Experiencing life at an HBCU was important to me. It provided a strong sense of community and connection.”

Reflecting on her four years on The Hill, Hudson described her journey as one of growth, both academically and personally.

“My time here has been nothing short of amazing,” said Hudson. “I’ve connected with incredible people and learned invaluable life lessons. The sense of community is something I’ll miss the most. There’s an unshakable pride in our history and culture that makes this place feel like home.”

Beyond academics, Hudson credits her professors for shaping her perspective on perseverance, responsibility, and career readiness.

“The life lessons my professors shared with me extend beyond the classroom. They’ve taught me the importance of patience, dedication, and facing challenges head-on,” she said.

While she embarks on her new role with the USDA, Hudson has ambitious long-term career goals.

“My ultimate goal is to open my own gym or daycare while working as a personal trainer,” Hudson shares. “I want to create a space that nurtures both physical and mental health, whether through fitness or childcare. In addition, I plan to pursue my MBA.”

Throughout her time at Alabama A&M, Hudson says she gained a deeper appreciation for the value of hard work, time management, and relationship-building – skills she plans to carry into her next chapter.

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t always come quickly. Staying focused and persistent truly pays off.”

Hudson says she will return to campus for Homecoming and keep in touch with her career development mentors. For future Bulldogs, she offers this advice:

“Don’t rush through college. Time moves quickly, and while it’s important to focus on academics and career goals, it’s just as crucial to enjoy the moment, build relationships, and make lifelong memories.”

Hudson will cross the stage at the Spring 2025 Commencement Ceremonies at the Event Center on Friday, May 9. The ceremony for graduate candidates will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
